Get Ready! It’s Back to School
Maybe you thought life was complicated when schools closed due to COVID and we all had to pivot to e-learning. Now we’re experiencing a full array of schools ready for every type of learning, and it is messy. Yet, a we all have our struggles and challenges in adapting to this fluid scenario, let’s keep ourselves aware of the need to monitor our mental and physical health.
As we strive to explore new means of education, we can expect pressures to grow with the annual arrival of influenza, unstable weather events, a volatile election drama unfolding, and who knows what else.
To stay the course, we must take care of ourselves first so that we can be capable of caring for everyone else in our lives. It always goes back to the basics of mindfulness.
Being aware of what our bodies are telling us requires some skill and introspection. Awareness of our emotions can also relate to sensations in our body. Remember that heart, mind, body, and soul need to be aligned and pure for optimal health physically, mentally, and spiritually.
This back-to-school time is the chance to get ourselves on track and to train our kids that everything counts, so anything for self-care is good practice.
Brainstorm how you can add to these good habits to make your lives richly satisfying and to minimize stressors. Here’s a list to start:
- Sleep early
- Practice daily meditation
- Minimize screen time, especially after sunset
- Read the Holy Quran
- Stretch and challenge your body with movement
- Get fresh air daily and open windows of your home
- Spend at least 2 hours outdoors in nature weekly
- Minimize sugar and simple carbohydrates
- Eat with good nutrition in mind
- Have some quiet time each day
- Connect with those you love, really connect
- Be mindful of your environment and aesthetics
- Indulge yourself in something you enjoy each day
- Take time to thank Allah every day.
Keeping your balance is vital for you and those around you. May you stay the course and find ease. Hang in there!
